STEPHEN & EVELYN STILWELL, MISSIONARIES TO PERU
July through October
We had a wonderful time in Sullana, August 15-18, at a pastor’s family fellowship that included several of our ex-alumni. It was good to have time to visit with them and enjoy their fellowship. Evelyn spoke to the ladies and I to the men and the mixed group.
August 21, several men from Victory Baptist Church and myself had a workday at camp and were able to get several things done. Maybe I worked too hard. I was to speak four times at a neighboring church for their mission’s conference on August 23 and 24. As we were celebrating our 61st wedding anniversary, August 22, Stephen said his heart had been hurting the day before at camp and it continued, so Martha took Dad to the clinic for tests and diagnosed an angina of the heart. His doctor wanted to see him again on the 24, to see if the meds were working correctly. Stephen had to cancel his speaking at the missionary conference. Thankfully, our grandson, Benjamen, was able to preach for him. What a blessing to have children here with us to help in times of need.
O July 26, Evelyn went out of the house to go to a meeting of a sister church for their 17th anniversary. She stepped in a crack where the driveway meets the street and cracked a bone in her foot. After a month with a cast for the first time in her life, an x-ray showed other problems with the foot. She now is on her second round of 10 therapies and still not permitted to walk. Martha has continued with her teaching and is cooking all our meals and doing most of the house cleaning. The therapies every morning have kept Stephen from going to camp, but he is making and installing handrails for the Maranata church.
The Bible school students are leaving this weekend to go to several churches here in Peru to serve for a week. Benjamin will be going with a group, so Stephen will be preaching for him at Victory Baptist Church the next two Sunday nights, as well as, his normal preaching on Sunday mornings at Maranatha Baptist Church.
October will be a busy month. Maranatha Baptist Church will have their anniversary, October 10-12, with sister churches coming to provide music and to celebrate with us. October 20-25, is the anniversary of our Peru Bible College. It looks like we will have our house full of graduates from years ago staying with us. That always makes us happy.
Thank you for praying with us for these extra activities this month and for the travels.
